October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. During the month Ontario students will be encouraged to learn about online safety at school. The Education Collaborative Network of Ontario (ECNO), of which HPEDSB is a member, has created educational resources for Cyber Security Awareness Month, including Cyber Heroes Unite for Grades K-8 and Digital Me for Grades 9-12.
Each week in October is dedicated to a specific topic:
- Week 1: Cyber Essentials, covering the basics
- Week 2: Building awareness of the risks of artificial intelligence (AI)
- Week 3: Navigating our connected worlds such as social media and gaming
- Week 4: The importance of digital wellness
Parents and caregivers can continue these important conversations with their children at home. The Ontario Ministry of Education has provided a tip sheet, Online safety: Keeping your children safe, to help start conversations with your child about online safety.
